Giving OpportunitiesFamilies are never denied Hospice of Kankakee Valley services because of inability to pay, and donations are essential for HKV to continue to provide care to everyone who needs it. While Medicare, Medicaid, and many private insurance plans provide benefits to pay for hospice care, the cost of some patients’ care often exceeds their reimbursement, and still other patients do not qualify for Medicare or Medicaid and do not have insurance coverage. Our community programs, such as grief support groups for adults, children and teenagers, are also largely uncompensated and dependent on the generosity of our donors. Community support is vital to the function of our organization, and the need for donations is constant. We are grateful for support in any amount. Shop online and benefit HKV! Visit www.givebackamerica.com to shop online and have a percentage of your purchase go to HKV. This is a reputable and safe way to donate to our organization while getting the things you need. Memorials Hospice of Kankakee Valley gratefully accepts contributions in memory of deceased relatives or friends. We are always thankful when patients’ families or other members of the community name Hospice of Kankakee Valley as a memorial recipient. Please notify us with a note on your check(s) or by phone – (815) 936-3370 – or e-mail – hkv_pedu@sbcglobal.net – if you would like your donation to be made “in memory of” your loved one. The Tree of Life/Book of Thanks A unique giving opportunity, the leaves of Hospice of Kankakee Valley’s “Tree of Life” are engraved with the names of loved ones, individuals, and businesses in whose honor a contribution or a group of contributions (totaling $250 or more) has been made. As the Tree fills, the names of donors (after 2005) will be engraved in a book of bronze-plated pages mounted on the wall in HKV’s front reception area, near the Tree. Periodically, Hospice of Kankakee Valley hosts a gathering to allow donors a time for reflection and celebration of life. The book and the Tree are visual reminders of those whose lives have touched ours, as well as those who support the Hospice of Kankakee Valley mission.
Bereavement Garden We realize that not all families can afford to honor their loved one with a leaf of the tree of life. For that reason, HKV is in the process of constructing a beautiful Bereavement Garden and bricks will be available for dedication in the amount of $50 each. These bricks can be dedicated whether or not your loved one received HKV services.
Planned Giving While gifts of cash and check are the most common, planned long-term giving can be more beneficial for donors in that it can increase income tax savings, reduce estate and probate costs, increase income through annuity trusts or unitrusts, and eliminate capital gain taxes on appreciated property. For more information on the benefits of planned giving to both you and Hospice of Kankakee Valley, contact us at (815) 936-3370. Together with the advice of your attorney or tax consultant, we can help you make giving decisions that are right for you. Planned giving options include stocks, bonds, or mutual funds; real property; personal property; bequests; life insurance policies; annuity trust or unitrust; and life estate in home or farm.
