Our Mission…

The Mission of Hospice of Kankakee Valley (HKV) is to provide compassionate physical, emotional, spiritual and social support to individuals living with terminal illness and their families throughout our service area. We strive to provide comprehensive palliative comfort care services, regardless of ability to pay, in a manner that maintains the dignity and independence of the person and family. Being the only not-for-profit hospice serving Kankakee County for over 25 years allows HKV to be driven by a mission, rather than profit.

Community Support…

The fact that care is provided regardless of ability to pay is one of the central aspects of HKV’s mission. This is why we actively raise funds in the community and accept memorials and other donations. Valuable community support dollars cover costs above the reimbursement rates established by Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance companies as well as total care for those without any insurance or payer. This support also allows HKV to provide services like bereavement counseling, which is provided free and open to the entire community.

Extending Our Mission…

Recently, HKV started providing Palliative medicine consultation for patients before they are eligible for hospice care as an extension of our mission. Palliative Care is a team approach to patient and family treatment that focuses on pain and symptom management and advance care planning. It is designed to relieve suffering in physical, emotional, psychosocial and spiritual realms. Palliative medicine consultation works in conjunction with any other treatment a patient is currently receiving. Palliative treatment is intended to improve quality of life and support an individual and their family in making decisions about their goals for care. HKV Palliative care physicians work cooperatively with both local hospitals and area nursing homes so the community has access to Palliative care long before they may need or desire hospice care.

HKV’s mission is inseparable from our commitment to the highest ethical standards as well as our own guiding philosophies.
